Love My Dress : Highland Wedding

Holly & Chris feature on Love My Dress today. Their wedding was so much fun to shoot, I genuinely loved working with them. It really is great to work with people who have an interest in photography and who trust in you to create something they’ll want to keep safe. They give you a bit of space to be creative and to tell your story of their big day. In that space to breath that they afforded us I think you can really see their shared love which is what it’s all about. And they had a giant inflatable pink flamingo at their wedding, yaaas!!

Their wedding took place at Newbold House in Forres in the Scottish Highlands. A lovely big old house on property owned by the Findhorn Foundation is also home to a small community who tend to a beautiful big vegetable garden and an apple orchard. The wedding guests were lucky enough to enjoy a dinner which was locally sourced and in part grown on that land. It was like a sweet shop for us, so many lovely backdrops for our photographs.

Family and guests chipped in to help decorate and prepare the garden for the outdoor Humanist ceremony. There are details about what the couple wanted to include in this on the Love My Dress feature. The beautiful early Autumn bouquet and buttonholes were created by fellow Wedding Collective supplier, Sparrow and Rose. As the sun went down guests enjoyed outdoor games, a ceilidh in the marquee and later marshmallows toasted on the fire pit which the couple had surrounded with fairy lights. Thank you again to Alix for shooting with me (and for our Inverness adventures!)

More shots from this colourful, fun and lovely day are on my website gallery pages here too.

I’ve also updated my couples gallery….round of applause please, thanks. This is made up of shots from pre-wedding shoots. I include a 60 minute pre-wedding shoot in my full day package. I feel it is super important to get a chance to chat and to work together before the big day. It’s such an important event and to be a complete stranger feels intrusive to me so I like to spend a little extra time before the big day chatting over plans and messing about. As someone who hates to be photographed I really feel it does take the edge off the horror for fellow camera loathers so that we can make the best of our short portrait session on the big day. I hate the idea of being one of those photographers that steals a couple away from their friends and family for hours on their celebration. It’s all about sharing your love and your joy with them, so these little practises let us get all the awkwardness out of the way beforehand. Everyone’s a winner. It’s also fun to mix up where we shoot. You’ll maybe have seen a few of the shots already on instagram…anyways, have a look for yourselves.
